About
Lydia Davies is an artist and writer based in Glasgow. Working across moving image, voice, sound, and bookmaking, she devises narrative-driven works preoccupied with interpersonal dynamics, bodily experiences, and the sifting and shifting exploits of voice and narration.
Lydia is currently working on a short film supported by VACMA, which expands on research into early projection techniques pre-dating the synchronisation of sound and image. She was recently artist in residence at the CCA Glasgow, to develop a body of research into sonorous and vocal nonsense through melismatic vocals and sound poetry. This ongoing research and body of vocal recordings revels in silly noises, failures and playful outpourings, and considers how clowning the mouth can open up alternative sonorous and affective methods of meaning-making.
Her recent writing commissions include:
Re spir ing (2023), a text developed in response to the artists’ research for the exhibition ‘To tease, to hold these stories through and through’ at Glasgow Project Room; and, Let’s fall in (2023), a prose poem commissioned by ho.rr curatorial collective, for the artist moving image screening event + publication ‘Projections of Love’, at French Street, Glasgow.
More of her writing and books can be found at Good Press in Glasgow, Typewronger Books in Edinburgh, CCA Derry, and MAP Magazine.
